Launch of the Mentorship Programme by the Indian Women in International Arbitration Group

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our Mentorship Programme, a new initiative by the Indian Women in International Arbitration (IWIA) Group. This programme is designed to further our mission of promoting and empowering Indian women in the field of international arbitration and dispute resolution.

The IWIA Group was established to address the underrepresentation of Indian women in international arbitration, despite their increasing presence in the legal profession. Our goal is to provide a platform for Indian women practitioners across various jurisdictions to connect, share knowledge, and support each other's professional growth.

Our Mentorship Programme is a significant step towards achieving this goal. It aims to provide our members with the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals in the field, gain valuable insights, and develop their skills and knowledge in international arbitration. The Mentorship Programme will pair mentees with mentors based on the stage they are at in their careers, as well as their interests and career goals, facilitating a one-on-one learning and development experience. This will not only help our members to navigate their career paths but also foster a sense of community and mutual support among Indian women (and their allies) in the field.

The 2024-2025 Mentorship Programme is structured to facilitate targeted and efficient learning over a year-long period, beginning with a preliminary introduction session in April 2024 where mentees and mentors establish their objectives and expectations for the period of the programme. Small groups of mentees will be paired with mentors. Mentees can anticipate dedicating approximately one hour per month to meetings with their mentors.

Mentor Expectations:

  • Mentors are expected to provide constructive feedback, share experiences, and help mentees navigate specific challenges in international arbitration.
  • Mentors are expected to commit to the full duration of the mentorship cycle to ensure consistency and reliability for their mentees.
  • Mentors should be willing to facilitate introductions and networking opportunities for their mentees within the field of international arbitration.
  • Mentors should aim to challenge their mentees by setting realistic but ambitious goals for their personal and professional development.
  • Mentors are expected to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all discussions with mentees, upholding the highest standards of the legal profession.
